W of Walter is the movie that Rossana Podestà has dedicated to Walter Bonatti, his partner in life. The ex actress met his love in Rome in an almost incidentally encounter, an appointment to the ara coeli quite funny (read here for more information). The two have shared 30 years of life and experiences, many of which are told in this documentary film. The film is about the most intimate Bonatti, the man lived by Rossana, his life partner. Along with amazing and absolutely unpublished 16 mm footage rediscovered in the Bonatti's garage, the film also has trips of Walter and Rossana in the mountains and deserts of the world, the last had a few months earlier after his death.
The film came from a total immersion into the world of Walter and his special "way of being" who did he become an example not only for climbers. Two months of work for Rossana, together with Director Paola Nessi, in her beautiful home in Dubino that she and Walter had built together. It can't have been easy for Rossana Podestà to face this trip down memory lane. "W of Walter" is somehow part of his life, an act of love for Walter Bonatti and a gift to all who knew and admired him.
